Perhaps one of the most common training problem I get asked about is onlead behaviour, whether it is a dog who acts aggressively onlead, lunging and growling or a dog that loves other dogs who also pulls, lunges, barks and gags himself to get to the other dog

Dog use body signals that  defuse situations, an important ability for social animals living in groups. Norwegian dog trainer Turid Rugaas called these behaviours calming signals. They are a large number of behaviour patterns that Turid says dogs use to avoid conflict, to prevent aggression, to calm other dogs down and to communicate information to other dogs and to people. 

Understanding our dog’s body language and what he is saying is an important part of dog training. Dogs send and receive signals via, sound, smell and sight.
